Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing any issues with Sophia, please follow the below steps:

  1. Version Check: Say "version check". You should get a message back saying it's Sophia by Aquila Labs including the version number. If you do not receive this, ensure Sophia is properly installed, and visit the Settings -> Voice Assistants menu to ensure the Sophia pipeline is properly created and set to your default voice assistant.
  2. Context Only mode: Go to the Settings menu of the web interface and switch to Context Only mode. This is useful if your device configuration is incomplete, ambiguous or contains many blank friendly names. It will stop devices from being added to the vocabulary, and instead utilize contextual markers only.
  3. Log: Visit the Log menu of the web interface, which will show all messages received and the intents they were mapped to. Ensure the text is correct and that your speech to text model is translating correctly.
  4. Talk to Sophia Like a Friend: Although it will understand both, use more conversational language like you would with a friend. Instead of saying, "kitchen lights on, set oven timer to 30 minutes" simply say, "can you turn the kitchen lights on for me and also start the oven timer for 30 mins?"
  5. Tags: If Sophia is simply not selecting the correct device, it may not have enough context for that device. Through the Entities menu of the web interface you can specify a comma-delimited list of tags for the desired device. This helps provide Sophia with more context (eg. if it's a dog door specify "pet", if the media player only plays music and no video tag it with "music"). This will help Sophia during device selection.
  6. Help Improve Sophia: If Sophia gets something wrong, simply tell it the last message was wrong by saying something like, "nope, that's wrong". The previous message will be logged, and once in a while upload the misinterpreted messages via the logs menu of the Sophia web interface.
  7. Contact Support: If problems persist, we want to help. Please e-mail [email protected] or post on the community forums. If you're willing to, please also e-mail a copy of your anonymized device configuration which you can obtain by clicking the Export button found within the Entities page of the web interface. This will allow us to emulate your device configuration on our end so we can see what you're seeing.
